Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the difference between an automatic and a manual nozzle?
A: An automatic nozzle has a built-in shutoff that stops fuel flow when the tank is full. A manual nozzle requires the operator to control flow by holding the handle. Automatic nozzles are standard for most transfer pump setups; manual nozzles are common on gravity-feed farm tanks.
Q: What is a breakaway and why do I need one?
A: A breakaway is a safety device installed in the fuel hose line that cleanly separates if a vehicle drives away with the nozzle still inserted. It stops fuel flow on both sides of the break, preventing spills and damage. Breakaways are required on retail fuel dispensers.
Q: What size nozzle do I need?
A: Nozzle size is determined by flow rate and connection size. Standard transfer pump nozzles are typically 3/4" or 1" NPT. High-flow commercial nozzles may be 1-1/2" or larger.
